BMW Step Lip

Seemingly, many people are confused or don’t know exactly what a step lip is. The step lip is seen amongst many genres including on VIP style cars and Euro/DTM style cars. Think of it as basically two lip’s on a single wheel. Normally wheels have a smooth flat lip all the way through the barrel right? Well, a step lip has the typical wheel lip and then a “step” up on the inside of the barrel (another lip), thus the “step lip.”

The whole step lip deal is basically personal preference as far as I know, and there is no advantage to having a step lip. It’s simply aesthetics. Personally, I think the step lip is pretty cool especially when the car is rolling. As always, step lips look better on some cars versus others and on some wheels versus others.

A step lip is by no means something that is available on every wheel. Typically this option is reserved for “high end” wheels where you can actually chose custom offsets and sizes. I use the term “high end” loosely because there are companies out there that offer the step lip but the company may not be deemed “high end” in my opinion. I can’t really divulge much into which company I am talking about specifically because I’m pretty sure its information that I shouldn’t be spreading around but I will say that the company is well known.

Anyways, thats it for now. I hope you find this useful when it comes time to chose new wheels for your ride!
